About us
Bitumen numbers you can order against.
bitumencalculator.org is a small, free set of calculators for people who have to turn a drawing into a delivery — tonnes, litres, drums and trucks.
Why this site exists
Most bitumen calculators online get one thing badly wrong: they mix up bitumen (the binder, about 1,020 kg/m³) with asphalt mix (binder + stone, about 2,350 kg/m³). The two are not interchangeable, and using one where the other belongs can put an order out by more than double.
We built this site to keep those two apart, and to finish the job most tools stop halfway through. A number is not an order. So we take you from area and thickness all the way to tonnes of mix, kilograms of binder, drums at real net weight, truckloads and cost.
What we have built
Every tool is free, needs no sign-up, and runs entirely in your browser — so it keeps working on site when the signal drops.
- Bitumen CalculatorAsphalt layers or spray coats → tonnage, binder, drums, cost.
- Density ConverterTonnes, litres, cubic metres and drums at any density.
- Tank VolumeDip a tank or tanker, corrected back to a reference temperature.
- Roof Sheet CalculatorRolls, laps and torch-on membrane for a roof area.
- Driveway CostA price, not a tonnage, for a single-layer home driveway.
- Blend CalculatorMix two penetration grades to hit a target grade.
- Paint CoverageLitres per coat for waterproofing structures and roofs.
How we work
- Defaults come from documents, not guesses. Spray rates from published highway agency and state DOT specifications; mix ranges from Asphalt Institute, MORTH and IRC guidance.
- Every default is editable. The moment you have a job mix formula or a test certificate, that number wins — and the calculator lets you enter it.
- We show the working. Binder is reported separately from mix, and emulsion is converted from residual rate to product volume, so nothing is hidden inside one figure.
- Your specification outranks us. Our tables are for the stage before your documents exist. If a number here disagrees with your spec, the spec is right.
- Nothing leaves your browser. No accounts, no uploads, no server calls.
